CyCLOPS+ at the EGU General Assembly 2025

CyCLOPS+ team participated in the EGU General Assembly 2025, held in Vienna, Austria, one of the world’s leading scientific conferences in the field of geosciences, bringing together
researchers, practitioners, and decision-makers from across the globe. The delegation included Dr. Chris Danezis and Dr. Kyriaki Fotiou, representing our ongoing work in geohazard monitoring, Earth observation, and strategic geodetic infrastructures in Cyprus.

·       Dr. Chris Danezis presented a poster entitled “Investing in Strategic Infrastructures for Geohazard Prevention in the Eastern Mediterranean Region: The CyCLOPS Integrated GNSS/InSAR Permanent Network and the Cyprus Ground Motion Service.” The poster showcased the strategic role of permanent GNSS and InSAR infrastructures in regional geohazard prevention, with a particular focus on the CyCLOPS integrated monitoring network and the development of the Cyprus Ground Motion Service (CyGMS) as a national-scale tool for ground deformation monitoring.

·       Dr. Kyriaki Fotiou delivered an oral presentation entitled “Comprehensive Monitoring of the Active and Fast-moving Landslide of Pissouri Village, Cyprus: Integrating SAR, GNSS, Rainfall and Laser Scanner Data.” The presentation focused on an integrated, multi-sensor monitoring framework for the active landslide of Pissouri village, combining satellite-based SAR interferometry, in-situ GNSS measurements, rainfall data, and terrestrial laser scanning. The results highlighted the value of data fusion for understanding complex landslide dynamics, improving deformation detection, and supporting early warning and
risk mitigation strategies.

Overall, the participation in EGU 2025 strengthened international visibility for Cyprus-based research, fostered scientific exchange with leading institutions, and reinforced the importance of long-term, integrated monitoring infrastructures for geohazard assessment in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
