Education: Mr. Marios Tzouvaras is a Research Fellow and member of the research team of Professor Diofantos Hadjimitsis at the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics. He received his MEng in Rural and Surveying Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). He continued his studies at the Imperial College London and University College London (UCL) where he obtained his MSc Degree in Transport with Distinction. He is currently a PhD candidate in Intelligent Maritime Transport Planning at the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT).

Professional background: After the completion of his MSc Degree he was employed by Ove Arup International Ltd as a Transport Planner/Consultant at their London office. During his employment, he worked on the development of micro-simulation transport models, transport assessment reports and risk assessment reports for various projects in United Kingdom and abroad where he obtained significant experience on using GIS for monitoring economical indices during natural disaster scenarios. Lately, he worked at an international contractor firm (J&P Overseas) as an Engineer for the construction of the Queen Alia International Airport terminal buildings, aprons, taxiways and runways in Amman, Jordan. Since 2012, he is employed by Cyprus University of Technology and works at EU funded research projects. Some of the projects he participated are CLIMA – Cultural Landscape risk Identification, Management and Assessment; INTRAPRISE – Infusing entrepreneurial skills in the corporate ICT environment; THAL-CHOR – Cross-Border Cooperation for the development of Marine Spatial Planning; MEDNET – Mediterranean Network for Custom Procedures and Simplification of Clearance in Ports.

Research: His research focuses on, Transport Planning, Maritime Transport, Port/Freight Management, Micro-simulation Transport Models, Intelligent Transportation Systems – GIS, Pavement construction (Flexible/Rigid), Remote Sensing, GIS, Geoinformatics for environmental surveillance / applications, SAR Interferometry, Natural Hazard Risk Management, Landslides, etc.
