Education: Dr.Christiana Papoutsa holds a BSc in Chemistry and a MSc in Chemistry & Technology of the Environment with Distinction, both from the University of Athens, Greece. She received her PhD from the Cyprus University of Technology. She received her Ph.D in the field of Water Spectroscopy and Remote Sensing for monitoring water quality over surface water bodies (inland & coastal) from the Cyprus University of Technology, Cyprus.

Professional background: She is currently a Research Fellow at the ERATOSTHENES Research Centre. Since 2009, she has participated in more than 15 research projects at National and European level received funding by several sources such as: FP6/EC; Structural Funds and RPF (Cyprus); ESA; Programme Med; Cross‐Border Cooperation Programme Greece – Cyprus 2007‐2013 Interreg; FP7; H2020‐MSCA‐RISE; H2020‐TWINN‐2015: Twinning / Coordination and Support Action; H2020‐ Widespread‐04‐2017: Teaming Phase 1. She has been involved in activities such as giving presentations related to the research activities of the ERC to primary and high schools in the framework of research activities organised by the Research Promotion Foundation (Cyprus) such as the ‘Week of Research and Innovation’ and the ERC as member of the Copernicus Academy and FabSpace Network. She leads the participation of the ERC in the European Researchers’ Night (yearly since 2014); and the collaboration with high schools aiming to support students to participate in school competitions.

Research: Her research focuses on: Remote Sensing & GIS for environmental applications; Ground field spectroscopy; Water resources management; Surface water quality monitoring of inland & coastal water bodies; Risk assessment for aquatic ecosystems/ spotting of pollution sources using space technologies; Smart water management for agriculture; Climate change; Education activities to cultivate research culture: Young Scientists & Schools. She has published more than 6 journal papers, 1 chapter in book, and presented in over 20 oral/poster presentations at international conferences.
